Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, spans 1,325 km² across Rukum, Myagdi, and Baglung districts in the Dhaulagiri Himal. Situated at 2,850–5,500m altitude, it features diverse landscapes and wildlife, including 18 mammal species like snow leopards, musk deer, and blue sheep, plus 137 bird species such as Cheer and Impeyan pheasants. Established in 1987, the reserve balances trophy hunting with ecosystem preservation. Hunting is allowed for select species like musk deer and wolves. The reserve is divided into six blocks to promote sustainable hunting and prevent poaching.
