As soon as you arrive at Simikot, you immediately notice the change in the air. The refreshing mountain breeze carries a light chill. You’ll briefly meet your camping crew as they unload gear from the plane and begin heading toward the first campsite. There will be more time later to get to know them properly.

After a warm cup of tea, you begin your trek. Though we say "down the trail," the journey actually starts with an uphill climb to your first mountain pass. The trail takes you through fragrant pine forests and scattered villages, with spectacular views of the Karnali River far below. After one final steep climb, you’ll reach your first campsite.

Now it’s time to relax, engage with your camping team, and settle into the rhythm of mountain life on a camping trek.

After breakfast, you begin a relatively relaxed trek today. Following the flow of the Karnali River, the trail takes you through a mix of gentle uphill and downhill sections — a typical rhythm of trekking in the Himalayas — until you reach the village of Kermi.

Kermi has a few hidden gems worth exploring. Not far from the village are natural hot springs, perfect for soothing your muscles after the hike. Also nearby are two ancient monasteries: Laikyo Gompa and Lhundrup Choeling Gompa, each holding centuries of history and spiritual significance.

Throughout the day, you’ll pass many Buddhist shrines and artifacts, a reflection of the strong Buddhist culture in the region. Most of the local people here are of Tibetan origin, many having crossed into Nepal around the time of the 1959 Tibetan Uprising, bringing with them their deep-rooted traditions and spiritual heritage.

Today offers another day of breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks — but while you're admiring the vistas, be mindful of the trail beneath your feet. The path may be uneven with loose gravel and rocks, so caution is important.

As you gain altitude steadily, it's essential to stay hydrated and take regular breaks to help your body adjust and prevent altitude-related issues.

The trail ascends through dense pine forests before the landscape begins to open up as you approach the Chumsa Khola. After a short descent, you'll arrive at your campsite in the scenic Chumsa Khola Valley.

Today’s trek is more challenging due to both the duration and the terrain. You’ll be walking on rougher ground, often over glacial moraine, making it more demanding underfoot. The trail also leads through serene pine forests and involves crossing small mountain streams.

As the altitude continues to rise significantly, it’s important to take your time and listen to your body. If you experience any symptoms like dizziness or confusion, inform your guide immediately. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and rest breaks are essential to ensure a safe and successful journey.

After an extremely early breakfast, begin one of the longest and most demanding days of the trek. The day starts with a descent from Dharmashala, followed by a challenging ascent to cross the Nyalu La Pass — the highest point of this entire journey.

To avoid strong afternoon winds at the pass, you will leave camp by 5:00 AM. As you gain almost 1,000 meters in elevation, it's crucial to monitor your body for any signs of altitude-related issues.

Despite the physical challenge, the rewards are immense: stunning panoramic views of the Himalayan range, glimpses of Mount Kailash, and even the Tibetan Plateau on clear days. After crossing the pass, descend to the peaceful campsite at Talung where you can unwind and enjoy a well-earned rest.

Today you officially enter the remarkable Limi Valley — a hidden gem known for its unspoiled beauty and thriving wildlife. The valley is home to elusive snow leopards, Himalayan blue sheep, and even wild yaks, which were believed extinct until they were rediscovered here in 2014.

As you walk through this serene landscape, you’ll encounter several Tibetan Buddhist artifacts that reflect the strong cultural ties to Tibet. Many of the northern Humla inhabitants are descendants of Tibetan migrants who crossed into Nepal over 60 years ago, especially during the 1959 Tibetan Uprising.

In contrast, the southern and central Humla regions are inhabited mainly by Khas communities from the Sinja Valley. All communities retain unique dialects and traditions. You'll also see traditional flat-roofed homes—perfect for drying vegetables in the cool mountain air—giving you a glimpse into everyday life in the Himalayas.

Jang – 4,070 m / 13,353 ft

The highlight of this segment is reaching the breathtaking Tsho Rolpa Lake — a striking glacial lake with vivid turquoise waters, nestled beneath towering Himalayan peaks. Its icy beauty is complemented by the surrounding alpine flora and fauna, creating a serene and unforgettable scene.

Located within the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, this region is a paradise for birdwatchers. Use the evening and early morning to spot rare bird species in this unique ecosystem. Upon reaching the campsite, enjoy a warm lunch and spend some relaxed time with the camping crew, who also take a well-deserved break today.

Follow the scenic Limi River out of Jang as you trek towards Halji, one of the most culturally significant villages in the Limi Valley. This picturesque hamlet, with its ancient architecture and peaceful surroundings, offers a unique glimpse into traditional Himalayan life.

From Halji, there is an optional hike to Lapcha Syar (Limi Lapcha) at 4,900 m / 16,076 ft, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, making it a spiritual and visual highlight of the journey.

Begin your day with a scenic hike to the suspension bridge crossing the Tagtsi Khola, a tributary of the mighty Karnali River, and continue onward to the quaint village of Til.

Til is the smallest of the three villages in the Limi Valley (along with Halji and Jang), surrounded by terraced barley fields and traditional stone houses. Nearby, you’ll find Rinzing Ling Gompa, a Buddhist monastery of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage, established in the 1970s. It is believed to be a continuation or spiritual successor of the older Kunzum Do-Nag Monastery, also located in the Limi Valley.

Consider visiting the gompa either in the evening or early morning to witness the daily rituals and chants performed by the resident monks—an authentic insight into the enduring Buddhist culture of this remote Himalayan region.
